More About CVHR

Central Virginia Horse Rescue was founded by Cindy Smith.  Cindy has been involved with horses since she was 4 yrs old and has worked with several different equine rescues over the years.  Opening her own rescue has always been a dream.  When the opportunity presented itself in 2010, she gathered a few other horsewomen together and they formed the Corporation.

Expecting to only rescue 3-4 horses per year, we were taken by surprise at the overwhelming need for horse rescue.  CVHR went from 2 rescue horses to 20 in it’s first year and to 30 by the end of it’s second year.  By the end of 2011, CVHR was working on becoming verified by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and received that verification in 2012.  CVHR currently has barns in Brodnax, VA (GFAS Verified), Emporia, VA and the new farm in Kenbridge, VA.

We pride ourselves on actively seeking homes for horses including those that would normally not be considered adoptable.  In the first two years, CVHR adopted out more than 100 horses.  Our goal is to find safe, loving homes for all of our horses.
